Family and Local History

Of course, you may book B&B in the usual way and 'do your own thing', but we do offer assistance to visitors who need or want some help to explore their South Hams ancestry.

Graham Collyer is a freelance journalist and author who produces a weekly archive page for the local newspaper, and he has a long-standing interest in local history. He can be available, from Thursday lunchtime to Sunday evening, to assist you in your searches, and can show you the local record offices in Plymouth and Exeter, and also help you locate other research material. Graham will charge for his time; please enquire.

He can also help, if necessary, with internet searches.

If, by chance, you want a break without your car (not everyone relishes our narrow Devon lanes!) we can meet you at our nearest station, which is at Totnes, 15 miles away. Pictures show Lyra and Graham - both friendly.

During your stay you may wish to explore a South Hams location and be left to your own devices, to be collected later in the day. That's fine, we can tailor your stay to suit your needs. Mileage will be charged at 30p per mile.

Just call or email us for an estimate of the cost of your requirements.

Dinners and cream teas at Greenfields may be available by special arrangement. Alternatively, we are happy to recommend local pubs and restaurants.
