Directions

From Exeter

Heading west from Exeter, leave A38 Devon Expressway at Wrangaton Cross junction (ignore earlier signs for Kingsbridge, unless you wish to come via Totnes), and turn left on to A3121 for approximately half a mile to Kitterford Cross. (All the crossroads in this area have white posts with names.) Go over on to B3196.

Continue to California Cross. Just past pub and petrol station (opposite each other) take left fork to Loddiswell (staying on B3196). Pass through Loddiswell and descend through woods to cross River Avon. Continue to Sorley Green Cross and turn right to join A381. (Road from Totnes is on your left.)

Continue to Palegate roundabout and join A379 and pass through Churchstow to Bantham Cross roundabout. Turn left on to A381 and continue for about one and a half miles to Langworthy Barn cojunction (having ignored earlier signpost to South Milton). Turn right and continue for about half a mile to first turning on the right, marked South Milton.

Follow lane for just over a mile into the village, past the village hall on the right, and then the church, also on the right. Just past the church, turn sharp right into (unmarked) Shute Lane (look for post box), which runs behind the church. Take the first left, after about 25 yards (opposite a thatched cottage called Webbers), drive up the steep narrow lane. (Small Greenfields nameplate on the wall.) You will see a white wall at the top of the lane – this is next to our garage. Bear round to the left and continue to the turning circle then head back to our garage. Check your vehicle’s width/height before entering the garage! Greenfields is the first cottage (white) on the end of the terrace, through the metal gate.

Drivers of high/wide vehicles have another parking option at the other end of our row of cottages. This can be discussed with Ann or Graham.

From Kingsbridge

Take the A381 Salcombe road. Travel up the hill through West Alvington. South Milton turning is 2 miles further on, on the right. (Small sign on left).

Follow lane for just over a mile into the village, past the village hall on the right. Just past the church, turn sharp right into (unmarked) Shute Lane (look for post box), which runs behind the church.

First left (about 25 yds) is a short steep unnamed lane with stone walls on either side, opposite a thatched cottage called Webbers. A small ‘Greenfields’ sign is on the right hand wall. The white wall beside our garage can be seen at the top of the lane. At the top, bear left, and continue to the turning circle, then head back to the garage.
The white-ended cottage is Greenfields.

From Plymouth

Heading east from Plymouth, leave the A38 Devon Expressway at the Ivybridge junction and at the roundabout ignore the sign for Ivybridge town and cross over the A38 and turn left for Ermington. Pass the South Devon Tennis Centre on the right and continue for about two miles to Ermington village.

Turn right on to the A3121 and in half a mile or so turn left for Modbury, then left again on to the A379 (opposite the gates to Flete House). Pass through Modbury and keep on the A379 via Aveton Gifford (bypass). Cross the River Avon and continue up Aveton Gifford hill to the Bantham Cross roundabout. Go straight over and continue for about one and a half miles to Langworthy’s Barn junction (having ignored earlier signpost to South Milton).

PLEASE NOTE: If coming from Plymouth city centre take the A379 to Modbury and then pick up the details above.

From the Coastal Path

On reaching Thurlestone Sands (or as we call it, in this village, South Milton Sands!), come off the coast path at Links car park, adjacent to Links Court apartments (SX 676420) and take the road inland for about 1.25 miles. Just before you reach South Milton church, take the unmarked lane on the left (post box on your right) and within 20 yards turn left up a narrow lane between walls, and Greenfields is at the top on the right (clearly marked).

If, on the other hand, you arrive by taxi, on passing the church the unmarked lane will be a sharp turning on the right, just before Kerse Lane.

From Totnes (by Car)

From Totnes take the A381 to Kingsbridge, passing through Harbertonford, Halwell and The Mounts. At Stumpy Post Cross roundabout take the second exit to Sorley Green Cross. Go over the crossroads to Palegate Cross roundabout and take the second exit, passing through Churchstow to Bantham Cross roundabout. Turn left and stay on this road until the junction with Kingsbridge to Salcombe road at Langworthy’s Barn (ignore earlier signpost to South Milton).

Turn right and take the next right marked South Milton. Follow the lane through the village, past the village hall, and immediately after the church turn right into Shute Lane (unmarked) with a letter box at the junction. After 20 yards look for the Greenfields sign on top of the wall on the left (opposite thatched cottage called Webbers) and turn left up the lane to our white end-of-terrace cottage at the top. Bear left at the top of the lane to the turning circle and return to our garage (we have a Plan B if your vehicle does not fit!).

From Totnes (by Bike)

The direct route from Totnes station is to turn right out of station approach and then filter left at traffic lights on to the busy A381 to Kingsbridge. From Kingsbridge take the road to Salcombe (still A381) via West Alvington and turn right to South Milton. Follow the lane through the village, past the village hall and immediately after the church turn right into Shute Lane (unmarked) with a letter box at the junction. After 20 yards look for the Greenfields sign on top of the wall on the left and turn left up the lane to our cottage at the top.

The quieter route for cyclists from Totnes is to turn right out of station approach, filter left at the traffic lights on to the A381 and then turn right at the next set of traffic lights in about 500 yards. Follow that road out into the countryside and look for signposts to Diptford and on to Woodleigh and Loddiswell before joining the B3196 to Kingsbridge. Both routes are undulating.
